SakerPride - "Telling the Saker Story & MORE"
KEEPING THE FAITH!!
Saker Baptist College was founded, as its very name suggests, on CHRISTIAN principles. Every student that has gone through its portals has been taught to "LOVE THE LORD THY GOD WITH ALL THY HEART, SOUL and MIND", and to "LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS THY SELF" - whether it be through Spiritual Emphasis Events, Morning and Evening Chapel Devotions, or Regular Sunday Church Attendance. It is little wonder then, that Ex-Sakerettes continue to live out the Christian Principles instilled in them during those formative and impressionable years, and that some of them have taken on the mission of spreading "The Good News". I am one such Ex-Sakerette, so, besides the few links directly below to my favorite gospel websites,  the rest of this page contains a sampling of some "Sermonnettes" I have written over the past 2 to 3 years. True, my target audience is my Saker Sisters, and the WEST AFRICAN PIDGIN I interject may get in the way - a wee little bit,  but the intrinsic biblical truths  embedded in them are perceptible, genderless, ageless and timeless.
I HOPE AT LEAST ONE OF THEM BLESSES YOU TODAY!
Committed to helping fellow believers make it across the finish line.

VALENTINES DAY ADVICE (LOL!)
THE "GOSPEL" OF DON WITT'S LATTER DAYS, According to Mark ...
(A Hospital Bedside Miracle Of Sorts)
ASHIA! NA ROAD FOR ALL MAN. ... SO?
HAPPY NEW YEAR, PHENOMENAL WOMAN!
THE STORY

The most amazing thing just happened. You know I have been sitting in Dad’s hospital room for 2 straight days with him hardly breathing and unable to wake up, only occasionally opening his eyes for a sip of juice. He is dying and is ready for Heaven.
As you know, my parents were missionaries in Cameroon, Africa and they taught many, many young Africans both education and Christianity.

I have spent my whole life growing up with recurrent side-experiences of African contact and stories about my parents, and the multitude of students they affected over the years as the “Cameroonian boys & girls” found their way out into the wide world.
This afternoon, Dad’s hospital room door swung open and a doctor, wearing a tight white doctor’s coat, quick-stepped into the room. He looked very dignified, and he looked African. He got half way to the bed and stopped, gasped – “Oh my goodness! It is he!”

The doctor stood shock-still, hand on his head, “Could it really be?? But I know it is he! Look at him!!”
He turned to me and asked “Who are you? What is your name?!?”
I told him that I was the son. He said, “Yes, yes – but what is your name? Are you Witt?”
I said, “Yes, this is Don Witt.”
With that unmistakable Cameroonian accent and with a big, beaming smile on his face, the doctor proclaimed “This is my Don Witt! He was my teacher so many years ago in Cameroon! I am one of his Cameroonian boys. It is I, Tangyie! Gerard Shu Tangyie. He loved me so!”

He began to cry and looked at my Dad so tenderly. He came to the bed and held my Dad’s hands and said so many sweet things to him with such great affection.
He told me, “This man touched so many of our lives. He is the reason why I went to medical school. But more importantly he is the reason why I am a Christian! So many of us boys learned to read and think, but we also learned about Jesus Christ because of this man ... and your mother, Ruth!”

“I remember” continued Dr. Shu Tangyie, “that in our chemistry and science classes Uncle Don would always teach us that parallel lines on this earth will never intersect except when they get to the poles, the North and South poles. I have always remembered this lesson because he would then teach us that Christians need to walk in parallel with each other. He would say - Do not look too much at someone’s face when you walk with them, for you may think too much about their blemish, or their wrinkles. Instead walk side by side with them in love, for some day you will meet again at the poles of Jesus Christ, together.”
He waved his hands up to his chest in happiness and said, “and now, Uncle Don and I have met again at the poles of our lives.”
He and I tried several times to get Dad to wake up and see Tangyie. But we couldn’t rouse him.

Dr. Shu Tangyie told me he had seen the name on a communication board downstairs in the hospital and wondered if it could be him. He said, “I have wondered all these years if I would ever see Don Witt again. Some of us boys had stayed in touch and had heard he might be living in Tennessee, but we could never seem to find him. He is always in my heart. I have spent my life trying to live it in faith, the way Uncle Don taught us. Oh, what a special day this is! God is so good! “

He repeatedly shared with me just how influential my mother and father had been to so many people. He kept coming back to his face and would say things like, “You see? That smile is still there! He has the love of Christ on his face. No matter how old he is, that is my Uncle Don. Yes, I would know him anywhere. It is he! O Thank you!”

I picked up the Bible from the table and read a Psalm aloud while Dr. Shu Tangyie hugged my father. Dad still didn’t wake up. The doctor reviewed some things with me about Dad’s condition and talked about our decision to move forward with Hospice services. We exchanged cards and he asked to be called when the funeral would happen.

Then at the very end, Dr. ShuTangyie took hold of my dad’s feet and said “Good-bye Mr. Witt. You are a good man of God!” My Dad opened his eyes and looked right at him. The doctor leaned over and said, “Look! Look at this face, sir! It is I, Tangyie, Your brother. I am so happy to see you! Do you see me?” My Dad looked right at him and said, “Yes, Yes….. Tangyie. Hello my brother.” He smiled and drifted back off to sleep. I listened as Dr. Tangyie went out to the hall and nurses station with tears of happiness and telling people how good God was, and what a special miracle it was that had just happened. He was using yet another opportunity to tell people about Christ.

I was absolutely floored by this encounter, tingling with divine special-ness. What are the chances that, 45 years later, one of Dad’s students from Africa would be a practicing doctor in the very hospital, on the very day my father lay dying, and this doctor would see his name on a list and come up to the room just at that time. I say the chances are 1 in God. Such an impact this has made on me!

My father is the humblest man I know – yet he has influenced so many lives in this world. He lived every day of it with the Lord and witnessed it to so many people. Dr. Shu Tangyie’s visit was such a bright spot for me on a tiring, dreary day in a hospital room. The God of the universe came down and winked at me, and gave us such a wonderful gift and wrapped up in a bow - that he had been cooking up for 45 years, just for that moment. God can do such special things. That gift was good for my father, good for Dr. ShuTangyie, and good for me – all in our own special ways. Thank you Lord for this.

LET'S HEAR IT FOR FAHDA ABRAHAM!
How I wish I knew how to play some musical instrument – a banjo; a harp; that Efik/Pierre Didy Tchakounte xylophone; that Mungaka Choir mussanga & calabash shaky-shaky thing; something! I would soooo have used it to compose my very own song for PAPA ABRAHAM, yah!

Here's where I'm coming from:
We have been reading through the Book of Genesis in my Church lately and that exercise has afforded me a FRESH, CLOSER and DEEPER look into his life which has, in turn, led me to conclude that songwriters have not done the PA’A justice at all!!!

Maybe it is just my memory that fails me, but the only song I remember from my childhood/teen years about this INTRIGUING Father of Nations happens to be the one Sunday School Song that ought to go down in history, (and the GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS), as the most Factually and Theologically INACCURATE song ever composed:

FATHER ABRAHAM; HAD SEVEN SONS!
SEVEN SONS HAD FATHER ABRAHAM! (Didn’t the first line already state that LIE?)
AND THEY DIDN’T EAT! (By how manage when “Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver and in gold.”? Genesis 13:2)
AND THEY DIDN’T SLEEP! (Even watch night dey sleep for day time!)
AND THEY DIDN’T HAVE NO SORROWS! (Abi?? Then they would be the only people ever to have lived sorrow-free on this planet!!)
(Let’s just leave the Right Hand! Left Hand! Right Foot! Left Foot and all the other extremities the song mentions, alone!!!)

But what a lie-lie song for a man who “sweated” well-well to have the only 2 sons he wound up with:

-The first, ISHMAEL, whom he had at age 86, courtesy of Hagar the Maid-Njumba who began to “membah” once her height was picked. (I guess we shouldn’t blame him and Mammy Sarai whose idea it even was, since at that time, PRINCE NICO MBARGA, ASHAGASHA, JACOB NGUNI and Co. had not yet composed “AKIÉ”, and they did not know that “GOD’S TIME IS DEH BEST!)

-The second, THE SON OF THE COVENANT, ISAAC whom he had, (without no VIAGRA), when he clocked 100!!!

Even with my childhood/teen years faaaaaar behind me, I have still not fared any better as far as “ABRAHAM SONGS” go, since all the ones I have heard only mention his BLESSINGS and encourage me to claim them as MINE, (nothing intrinsically wrong with that), BUT never feature or mention, much less highlight, WHAT, (in addition to God’s Grace), he did; what he went through, to “earn” him his HEBREWS 13 “HALL OF FAITH” status!!! Nor is there mention of his “WAYO-LIKE” side either; the flaws that make him “relatable” and remind us that he was a human being after all!
YES,
He, like his ancestor, ADAM, took bad advice from his wife instead of sticking to and SHING-ing behind what GOD said and GBAM! Out popped Ishmael and a ton of NDUTU which persists to this ISRAELI-PALESTINIAN CONFLICT day!!!
And YES,
He was a dude whose FEAR-FEAR attitude turned him into a LIE-LIE, CUNNY MAN as Genesis 12: 11-13 show so clearly:
11 As he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, “I know what a beautiful woman you are. 12 When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me but will let you live. 13 Say you are my sister, so that I will be treated well for your sake and my life will be spared because of you.”

HOWEVER, he was so much more!!!! He was ...
A MAN OF PEACE: When conflict arose between his herdsmen and those of his nephew LOT (who had amassed his own wealth from “hanging with” his Uncle Abe), he suggested they par ways PEACEFULLY and he let “LANGA” LOT choose the “greener pastures”.

A MAN OF LOYALTY: When Abram heard that Sodom and Gomorrah where L.L. (as in “LANGA” LOT), had settled had been attacked and that said L.L. and his family had been taken captive, what did Abram do? Instead of saying “E SWEET! Ah Shuca ngongolee” and making like sey e no hear “nweng”, he “armed his three hundred and eighteen trained servants who were born in his own house and went in pursuit” and rescued Lot!

A MAN OF HOSPITALITY: Some of us have a hard time hosting even our relatives and friends; how much more STRANGERS? And even for those of us that do, how HAPPY and JOYFUL are we to do it eh? Abraham, apparently, had him no such problem oh! This is a man who was just sitting and taking him small breeze at his tent’s “door mot” one hot middle-eastern aftahnoon when he lifted his eyes and beheld, not 1 or even 2 but 3 men he did NOT know. He sure had the option to make like sey e no see dem, or even sneak back kunya-kunya into his tent, or just stay put and pray that the ‘trangers pass by soffly-soffly, to someone else’s tent. INSTEAD, what did he do? He TANAPPED for up and RAN (as in, Hussein Bolt SPRINTED), inside da desert heat, to meet them, (remember he was 99 years old oh!), and BEGGED them not to pass him by!! AH NGANA!!! And if you think he offered them some small groo-groo (as in corn and grah-nut), you need to hurry back to Genesis 18 and rediscover the MENU – CAKES (home made from scratch by Ma Sarai) and a whole NYAKA, as in, an IYO, NJAMA-NJAMA COW-O)!!

A MAN OF COMPASSION; AN INTERCESSOR: As we all know, after the guests had “chopped flop”, Abraham went to see them off, and it is then that THE LORD decided not to hide from his “man” Abraham, that he was on his way to DESTROY Sodom and Gomorrah. It is at this point that Abraham displayed NEGOTIATING, PLEADING, BARGAINING and HAMBOCK-LIKE-JIGGAH skills that even the most astute of BIG MOP MARKET PRICE BEATERS could never boast of!!!

He started off begging God to spare Sodom if 50 righteous people were found there. God ‘gree!
But did Abraham leff it like dat? Heck NO!
- E say, how for 45 eh? God ‘gree!
- E say, Ekscuze me sah! How for 40, nah? God ‘gree!
- Oga, Tharty, nko? God ‘gree dassoh!
- Tata, No vex, How for 20? God so-so ‘gree!!
Sotaaaay, Abraham las’ for 10!!! And ain’t it SAD and PITIFUL that not even 10 righteous people were found in the entire city???

A MAN OF EXTRAORDINARY, EXEMPLARY, EXTREME OBEDIENCE & FAITH: Okay! FINALLY, ISAAC, the SON promised to Mr. and Mrs. ABRAHAM was born when they were 100 and 90 years old respectively. Chai! Breastfeeding at 90! Ewo-oo!!! (Let me just pass and be continuing my story)

OK. Isaac is born!! All man e heart don glad and then GBAM! GOD says: Take “your ONLY SON Isaac whom you love” and offer him as a BURNT offering”!!! In short: “BACK ME BACK DE PIKIN”!! Just like dat!! HABA!!!!!! It would have been terrible enough if pikin be juss get feevah, meng! But GOD asked ABRAHAM to perform the SACRIFICE, his own self!!! KAI WALAHI!!!
I would have said “NADA! NIET! NON! NO! JA’A EH!!!!” Short and Simple; END OF DISCUSSION! But what did Abraham who loved THE GIVER more than THE GIFT do?
He rose IN DEH SHA-SHARP MORNING oh, saddled his jackass, got 2 young men and his CHOP CHAIR Isaac and prepared to leave. He even had the heart and ngum to get his axe and split the firewood for the sacrifice before they left!
MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION: DID HE TELL MAMMY PIKIN WHAT THIS FAYAWOOD WAKA WAS ALL ABOUT???
(I am sure I am not the only “TIE-LAPPA-FOR-WAIST/ “YOU-GO-KILL-ME-TODAY” MOTHER who believes he did not dare breathe a single “werd” to her!!)
And this was not some short waka oh! It took 3 WHOLE DAYS!!! More than enough time for Abraham to change his mind, hit gear back-back, REVERSE & TIMBA!

Instead, on that 3rd day, he carried aaaaall that firewood and put it on ISAAC’s own head to carry, took the fire and dagger in his own hands and said “OYA!” His poor son actually asked him: “MY FATHER … behold the fire and the wood but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”

Da mean say eh??? The Bible does not tell us how old Isaac was but, if he was tanga enough to walk 3 days and carry ENOUGH firewood to burn a human being up, he was no infant!! So, when his father was done setting up that altar and still no MBOLI (as in meeh-meeh goat) was in sight, I would have taken to my heels and fled, instead of allowing myself to be BOUND and LAID on that altar!!! Weh-heh-heh! And it looks like e no even halla oh! Because, I am sure that if he had, the 2 men who were asked to stay back and watch de jackass while Abraham and Isaac went “yonder”, would surely have heard the screams and come running, nah?! By de way, if he had had to sacrifice de Isaac true-true, WHAT WOULD HE HAVE TOLD THOSE 2 YOUNG MEN, when he came back to them sans Isaac????

Talk about TESTED and PROVEN FAITH and OBEDIENCE – no questions asked!!!!!! Not the beb-beb stuff we say we have because we “prayed and believed God to pass common entrance”!!

Ah beg, someone needs to compose a propah ABRAHAM SONG, for real!!! ÇAAAAAAAAA!!!
THE "MAN KNOW MAN" BLESSING
