Mrs. VIOLA JINGWA LLEWELYN, CLASS OF 1982's STUDENT #1415
INVITED TO BUCKINGHAM PALACE!!!
As soon as I picked up my dropped-in-awe jaw off the floor, I asked Viola herself to "elucidate" on this "matter", and here's what she wrote, VERBATIM!
"This was at the Women of the Future Summit. Pinky Lilani CBE was the mastermind who conceived it. Alison Mitchell, first female cricket commentator in British History MC'd it. Both British High Commissioners from Malaysia and Iraq were at my table. The talented Rebecca Yuan who brought "The Voice" and "China's got Talent" were with me. I gave an award to the winner of the Entrepreneurship category, Gemma Richards, Director, SA Flyers. Her Royal Highness the Countess of Wessex; HRH Princess Badiya bin El Hassan; Princess Zahra AGA Khan, Elif Shafak; Rt. Hon John Bercow MP, Speaker of the House of Commons; Penny Mordaunt MP, Minister of State for Armed Forces; Karen Pierce, British Ambassador to Afghanistan; Judith McKenna, Vice President and COO, Walmart; and Dr Mukund Rajan, Group Executive Council, Tata Sons - all were in attendance. Most of these people were also at Buckingham Palace. The Queen was not in residence, but we mingled with her top staff in the portrait gallery where we were served tea, sandwiches and cake from beautiful china. That evening I returned to Wilton Park where I was speaking on Economic inclusion and the development of policy to promote Gender inclusion. I pushed the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of Great Britain to consider promoting education to the very young to prevent the issues we see of sexism today, and to respect that some gender issues look differently in other cultures and should have specific agendas accordingly."
Would you be surprised if I told you my jaw dropped right back???!!! Simply AMAZING! CONGRATULATIONS, Viola!

Here's what Phoebe's Mama said about this whole encounter:
"Been busy preparing for Phoebe's BIRTHDAY. Yay! Meanwhile earlier this week, she met a voice she's been hearing since her days in my Womb. I don't know how my pregnancy story would've ended if FAITH didn't exist. I feel like she was 'preached into existence' lol... One of those who fueled my faith was TD Jakes. Fast forward: He appeared in our backyard... Here he's wishing her Happy Bday but she was acting shy lol, then he said put her on the table. She got a HBD Gift: His book! It's No coincidence -It's *DESTINY*

CLASS OF 1999/2000's CHRISTA EKA ASSAM WINS HIGHLY COVETED AWARD FOR BEST SHORT FILM AT THE 2015 EDITION OF
THE AFRICAN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL!!!
Christa receiving her award, clad, as always, in an outfit designed by SAKERETTE-CARAT, MESANGA!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!
The Post I saw on Face Book stated:
"Cameroonian female Film Maker EKA grabs the Award for Best short film 2015 at the African International Film Festival going on now in Victoria Island Nigeria. Congrats EKA you make us proud as a Film loving Nation. Keep it up…"
I was THRILLED but not one bit surprised when I heard the news that our very own Christa had won this prestigious award on Saturday, November 14 2015! Not after what I learned from her and shared on the TRAIL BLAZERS Page of this website!!
(See ENTRY #12 at: http://www.sakerpride.com/T--BLAZERS2.html )
I recognized her winning this Award for the BIG DEAL it is but the magnitude of it all was not fully grasped till I went rummaging around on the net and found out from AFRIFF's Website itself, that there were close to 60 Short Films vying for the Award, with entries coming in from all over the globe - The United States, Canada, Turkey, The Democratic Republic of Congo, The U.K., Senegal, Uganda, South Africa, Ivory Coast, Japan, Ghana, Namibia, France, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Niger, Benin, Mali, and,of course, Nigeria itself!!!
(See Full Lists at: http://afriff.com/afriff-2015-final-selection/ )
So very PROUD of you, Christa! (TOLD YOU SO!!!) As for your decision to always promote a fellow SAKERETTE by constantly sporting "MESANGA" Outfits, that is certainly commendable!!!! GO GIRL!!!
Posing with the Prestigious Award!
Being interviewed after the ceremony!
S.B.C.'STUDENT #3846, Ms IMBOLO MBUE MAKES HISTORY WITH ...
A MILLION DOLLAR BOOK DEAL FOR HER FIRST TIME BOOK,
"BEHOLD THE DREAMERS"
(Originally entitled: "The Longings of Jende Jonga")
Hardly would anyone hear words like "WALL STREET JOURNAL" or "MILLION DOLLAR DEAL" and instinctively link them to any AFRICAN to start with, much less to a CAMEROONIAN, not to talk of to a CAMEROONIAN WOMAN!!!!! Have to say though, that if you got that far, then the fact that such a woman would be a SAKERETTE would not be a surprise!!! (Just sayin'!!! LOL!)
I am not sure that back in September of 1995 when she enrolled in Saker Baptist College's Lower Sixth Class, that Imbolo Mbue could have foreseen that, 17 years later, she would author a book about a Cameroonian immigrant chauffeur working for a Lehman Brothers executive during the firm’s 2008 collapse, and get a whopping 1 MILLION DOLLAR ADVANCE for it, A FIRST FOR AN AFRICAN NOVELIST!!!!!!!
Well, she's done it, and we are as proud as can be!
The Dean of OSU's College of Arts & Sciences, Bret Danilowicz, hands over Award to Dr.Mrs. Atekwana.
Dean Bret Danilowicz
(College of Arts & Sciences) & Dr. Estella Atekwana
"CAT" Dr. Eliot Atekwana & "RAT" Dr. Mrs. Estella Nkwate Atekwana (Class of 1978)
IN DEAN BRET DANILOWICZ' OWN WORDS:
"I am delighted to let you know that Dr. Estella Atekwana received the prestigious 2015 Eminent Faculty Award from Oklahoma State University yesterday. This award is presented to one individual a year, and is designed to recognize the highest level of scholarly achievement at OSU.
The selection committee statement read as follows: “Professor Atekwana’s research spans two very different areas of geophysics: near surface geophysics with focus on biogeophysics and tectonics of incipient rift systems. She has sustained cutting edge research in both areas and is a recognized world leader as evidenced by her long list of publications in geoscience journals, numerous national and international conference presentations, and broad participation on scientific panels for the Department of Energy, the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and the National Academy of Sciences. Dr. Atekwana’s scholarly productivity and funding rate are impressive by any measure.
Estella is also an impactful teacher and mentor. Over the past 13 years, her students have won ‘best paper’ or ‘best poster’ awards nine times at national conferences. She has advised 32 graduate students and 3 post-doctoral researchers, and over the past five years, she has taken 20 students abroad to conduct research.
In addition to her instruction and scholarly achievements, Estella has served as the Head of the Boone Pickens School of Geology for the past two years. During this time the department has significantly increased its external support from industry and federal agencies. Without question, she is a highly productive scholar and influential teacher.”

CLASS OF 1978'S Dr. Mrs. ESTELLA NKWATE ATEKWANA, (GEOPHYSICIST), RECEIVES OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY'S PRESTIGIOUS EMINENT FACULTY AWARD
Our very own Dr. ESTELLA NKWATE ATEKWANA (Class of 1978) received the distinguished Eminent Faculty Award on December 1st 2015. This award, with a $10,000 stipend is the highest honor given to a faculty member at Oklahoma State University who has made sustained contributions to scholarly creativity, instruction and service, bringing honor and recognition to the university. Dr. Atekwana was honored for her pioneering research on Bi geophysics and work on understanding the formation of continental rift basins in Africa, her service to the scientific community, federal agencies such as the Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of health, National Academies of Sciences, teaching and mentoring of students. Also worthy of note is the fact that, Since 1997, only one other female faculty has won this award!
Saying we are extremely PROUD of her and her achievements is putting it very mildly! CONGRATULATIONS, DOC!!!!!!!
Please, take a minute to read what The Dean of OSU's College of Arts & Sciences himself had to say about Dr. Estella Nkwate below:
UPDATE - APRIL/MAY 2016

In keeping with the "It is more blessed to GIVE than to receive" adage, and being well aware of truth in the assertion that we are blessed so we can be a blessing to others, some worthy sons and daughters of FAKO, prominent amongst whom are a bunch of SAKERETTES and "CATS" decided to join forces and give back to the "cradle of their fathers" within the framework of The Fako Foundation. (See labeled pictures below),

The Fako Foundation is a U.S.-based registered and incorporated 501(c)(3) Tax-Exempt Organization. Its charitable services are focused mainly in "Fakoland" where it focuses its efforts in promoting academic excellence through scholarships and education infrastructure development; the promotion of the Mokpwe Culture and, Preventive Healthcare, primarily through education in rural areas. The Foundation’s activities are meant to "complement and expand on existing efforts and to initiate new endeavors where needed".

Initial activities for the launching of Fako Foundation took place in Buea, in December of 2015. Members of the foundation presented scholarship certificates to pupils and students they are sponsoring through Salem Baptist Church, Lower Bolifamba (Mile 16), on Sunday December 27, 2015, during a church service and then on Wednesday December 30 2015, a free-clinic was organized in the Bokwaongo Integrated Health Center, for inhabitants in and around the community. A more detailed narrative of the Foundation's Launching is posted at: http://www.fakonewscentre.com/fakofoundation1.htm

ESMERALDA NKWETA KALE (CLASS OF 1979)
OFFICIALLY INVESTED AS CURATOR AT THE PRESTIGIOUS
NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY'S HERSKOVITS LIBRARY
FACT #1:
Northwestern University is a private institution that was founded in 1851. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 8,405, its setting is suburban, and the campus size is 231 acres. It utilizes a quarter-based academic calendar. Northwestern University's ranking in the 2016 edition of Best Colleges is 12. Its tuition and fees are $49,047 (2015-16).
**(Given that there are close to 5,000 accredited (Title IV) Universities in the United States, this ranking speaks volumes for itself!!!!! Furthermore, the Institution is classified as "extremely competitive", with an acceptance rate of 15%, which means that for every 100 applicants, only 15 are admitted, and the average  GPA - grade point average of its current students stands at 4.07, which, I assure you, is NOT easy to come by! In fact, per its own website, the average high school GPA of the admitted freshman class at Harvard University this past year was 4.04!!! GO FIGURE!!)**
FACT #2:
Established in 1954, the Melville J. Herskovits Library of African Studies at Northwestern University is the largest separate Africana collection in existence. Its scope is as wide as the continent of Africa itself; its subject matter ranges from art, history, literature, music, and religion to communications, management, and cooking. The Africana collection is a resource for the entire university, and most of Northwestern's disciplinary programs are reflected in the collection. In addition to serving the NU community, the Herskovits Library staff also serves regional, national, and international scholars as well.
**(Need I say more??)**
FACT #3:
Following her July 2014 appointment, the official investiture ceremony for CLASS OF 1979's ESMERALDA  NKWETA KALE took place on Wednesday, May 18 2016, in which she received the Medal of Office for her position as CURATOR of the HERSKOVITS LIBRARY.
Dean of Libraries Sarah Pritchard introduced the ceremony and bestowed the medal, and David Easterbrook (Curator Emeritus of the Herskovits Library) and Richard Joseph (John Evans Professor of International History and Politics) also spoke at the ceremony.

Hey! Not sure exactly who a CURATOR is? Well, instead of scratching your poor head sore, bothering GOOGLE - or your iPhone's "SIRI", here's the short and simple DEFINITION of the word:

"One who manages or oversees, as the administrative director of a museum collection or a library."

That was the "short and simple". To have a better idea about Sis Esmeralda's academic & professional career, her current position and what she has accomplished, just click on the links below and read away! You're bound to be even more impressed than you must be already!!!

CLASS OF 2012 SAKERETTE-CARAT, Ms CHARLENE ASSAM GIVES BACK TO SAKER BAPTIST COLLEGE ... AGAIN!
Charlene turned 21 on May 6 2016 and graduated MAGNA CUM LAUDE from the State University of New York a couple of weeks later.
Who would think someone that young with such a workload would still have been able to find the time to just breathe, much less put together and implement a program that resulted in the CASH, SMILES & PURE DELIGHT that are evident in the pictures above?
Ms Assam has proven once again, that it is more about DETERMINATION, GOODWILL, FOCUS, SELFLESSNESS & PERSISTENCE than it is about AGE, OCCUPATION, NUMBERS/GROUPS/ASSOCIATIONS, or (INDIVIDUAL) MEANS!!! Here's what she had to say about her accomplishment:

"It’s with complete and sincere gratitude that I write this short note of appreciation. This year in February, I started an initiative which was geared towards helping the younger students in Saker Baptist College (my Alma mater). The money raised was used to fund cash prizes for the students who received them at their annual prize award ceremony. I sincerely thank everyone who promoted this initiative and more so contributed to this cause because I believe it went a long way. I am really grateful that we were able to help these students through an Essay Contest to improve their grammar skills as well as encourage their young minds. I want to thank everyone who made this possible especially the Saker administration. Also to everyone who shared this through word of mouth or re-posted it on social media, I am really thankful. I hope that God truly blesses everyone.
Sincerely,
Charlene Effa Assam

KUDOS TO CLASS OF 2016 SAKERETTE-CARAT MONELA MAH-NGUM NTONIFOR,
(2nd BEST GCE "O" LEVEL STUDENT WITH 11 STRAIGHT "A"s)
DAUGHTER OF CLASS OF 1986's Mrs. CATHERINE QUASHIE NTONIFOR!
However good the reason why her classmates nicknamed her "SHOW BEEP" back in the day might be, I daresay her exploit at the 2016 CAMEROON GCE Ordinary Level Exams trumps it! In fact, if, when I met Sis Comfort (Koffi) Effange at the ExSSA-UK Convention in 2014, I had known she would be the Bigger & Brighter-Than-DOROBUCCI, MEGA SUPERSTAR CELEBRITY that she has become, would I not have asked for an AUTOGRAPH? Talk about MISSED OPPORTUNITIES! LOL!
She is, indeed, a CELEBRITY in her own darn right, and the throng of journalists who incessantly swarm her home requesting interviews since the news that she had had the courage and determination to take AND PASS the G.C.E Ordinary Level Exams at age 60 broke, do so with good reason! As for the champagne popping that occurred when ExSSA-BUEA convened to celebrate her AND THE BRILLIANT, CLASS OF 2016 CARAT, Miss MONELA MAH-NGUM NTONIFOR, daughter of CLASS OF 1986's CATHERINE QUASHIE NTONIFOR, it couldn't have been more justified! Little Miss NTONIFOR, as you might recall, is the CLASS OF 2016 SAKERETTE WHO CAME SECOND IN THE ENTIRE REPUBLIC OF CAMEROON, WITH 11 PAPERS, ALL OF THEM "A"s!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS to them both!!!
Now, Here's Sis Comfort's success story in a nutshell, as she herself told it to me in a 5 a.m. EST call yesterday morning:
The about-to-retire Bursar at Government Technical College, BOVA (Buea) that she is, decided she had to do something about the fact that she couldn't express herself well EN FRANÇAIS!!! Ah, oui!!! Besides the "handicap" this can be in bilingual Cameroon, she traveled to Burundi and to France and did not like the "MUMU ZACHARIAS" effect her inability to express herself in "LA LANGUE DE MOLIÈRE" had  sprung on her. She therefore made up her mind to change that sorry situation, deciding to study and take FRENCH at the Ordinary Levels. However, she found out, when she went to register for the exam, that, not only could she could NOT take just 1 paper; she would have to take English - AND MATH!!
You and I may have gone straight back home at this point, drank a bowl of drinking garri and said "FORGET IT"! Not Sis Comfort! She registered and sat for 7 papers!! She did not make the Math, (Can I relate, or What?!! LOL!) but here's her WAY MORE THAN COMMENDABLE PERFORMANCE in detail:
FRENCH: "A" (Mission Accomplished!!! Magnifique, n'est-ce pas???!!!!!); HISTORY: "B"; ECONOMICS: "B"; COMMERCE: "B"; RELIGION: "B"; ENGLISH: "C"!!! BRAVO, Grande Soeur!!

As for our dear 16 year old CARAT, MONELA NTONIFOR, (who, by the way, is also NIECE to Class of '81's Helen Ntonifor and SBC's legendary Discipline Master, Mr. LUCAS NTONIFOR), she plans on heading right back to Saker Baptist College (where else??!!) next month to begin her High School Education! Cannot wait for those 2018 G.C.E. "A" Level Results!!! GODSPEED, Baby!
Let the CHEST-NACKING and PRAISE OFFERING CONTINUE!!!!!

OH WOW!!!!
CONGRATULATIONS. Dear CHOLACK!!!! GODSPEED!

And, as far as SAKER Credentials go, far be it from me to omit the fact that she is NIECE to the SCORES of AWUNTI, WELASHEY & NJU SAKERETTES. KUDOS to them all for being "THE VILLAGE" that helped her Worthy Parents raise her!

When Class of 1978's Mercy Dasi ATANGCHO set off for CAMEROON with her CAT and CARATS in tow, her purpose was to go CELEBRATE her parents who have been married for 55 Good Years. Little did she know that her STATUS would undergo a rigorous, humongous, superfluous, fabulous (and all the dictionary's other positive "-ouses"), UPGRADE!!!   Here's the whole situation, simply put:
STATUS/TITLE UPON ARRIVAL IN MBEMI: "Mrs."
STATUS/TITLE AS OF SEPTEMBER 6 2016, COURTESY OF HRH FON HUMPHREY MBABIT OF MBEMI VILLAGE: "MAFOR"
(Here is where you need to step right in with the appropriate "WILILILILILILILIs" oh, ah beg!)
And I must hasten to add that this is definitely NOT one of those "BUY'AM" titles, nor is it HEREDITARY. The MERITED title was conferred upon her, (as the FON himself stated), IN RECOGNITION of the work she has CONSISTENTLY & VOLUNTARILY done for the Village, particularly with regard to its CLINIC. Talk about GOD elevating the HUMBLE! This couldn't have happened to a more DESERVING yet unassuming, self-effacing, "HOT AIR-LESS" individual!!!! CONGRATULATIONS, MAFOR MERCY, and GODSPEED as you continue to work selflessly for the good of your fellow man and for the GLORY OF GOD!
(NOTE TO THOSE STILL IN THE "BORNING BUSINESS: You may want to consider naming your GIRL PIKINS "MERCY" or "MARIE" and then sending them to SBC, as "statistics" show that it is of such "stuff" that TITLES are made, as in, MAFOR MARIE GOBINA EBIE, (Class of 1970) of MANKON, NKEUM MENGYE  MERCY MEFOR FORFEKE (Class of 1986) of AWING ... Just Sayin'!! )

Dr. STELLA NUNGA'S TAKE ON HER JOURNEY FROM THOSE "A MBOMBO"/LUMPSUM "KWATA"/VICTORIA DAYS TO THIS DAY ...

A CELEBRATION OF ACCOMPLISHMENT
My story is a one of inspiration and the conquering of one’s fears. “If you dare to believe, the sky is not the limit because you can reach for the moon” by Dr. Stella Nunga. It has been a long five years and somehow short years because of the outcome. Long because of all the other little snares that life throws at us. Short because of the lifelong friendships, the lasting memories from family and the truly interesting and amazing things we learned between the occasional bits of drudgery. “I will always remember this place in my life.” I know my experience is limited but every obstacle I have overcome has been because the good Jehovah has been there to carry me on. My support net goes to the patriarch of the Nunga Family; Pius B. Nunga (late) who believed in his little girl no matter what, first, when I received admission into the prestigious Saker Baptist College in 1976. I know you, mom and Brother Peter are smiling from the heavens above. There is nothing more beautiful than finding your course as you believe you move up and down aimlessly in the current, not knowing that your path was there all along, waiting for you to knock, waiting for you to become. This walkway does not belong to your parents, your teachers, your leaders, or your lovers, your destiny is yours to shape. I now know that, I’ve done one thing right and that’s to set the stage and legacy for my family and grand-children. I thank everyone who has been part of this journey, without your support it would not have been possible. With that said, I leave you with this ‘word of wisdom’ “Graduation is only a concept. In real life every day you graduate. Graduation is a process that goes on until the last day of your life. If you can grasp that, you'll make a difference."

If you are born a woman in or from a third world country, EVEN TODAY, your chances of making it through Primary and Secondary School are not extraordinarily high! If you make it to University and get yourself a Bachelor's or Master's Degree, you have certainly done well for yourself. In fact, YOU DON KILL'AM! How much more if you are able, AS A SINGLE MOTHER IN HER 50s, (an age at which some of us reach into our fridges, grab a bottle of water and deposit our car keys right by the eggs and then wander around the house for an hour straight in search of them!), WITH ONE TODDLER GRANDDAUGHTER & THE OTHER ON THE WAY, - ALL THAT, and you are able to get yourself a DOCTORATE DEGREE???
That is NO MEAN FEAT, so HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS, "NUNGIS"! You've come a mighty long and glorious way from those BASSA KONTRI DANCE ("SONG LAM"/Hiss! Hiss! Hiss!) days, my Class of '81 Sister! Your Lumpsum/Church Street/New Town, Victoria Squad couldn't be PROUDER!!! Trust me on that! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!
THE YOUNG LADY & THE MEDAL!!!
Sis VICTORIA MUTANGA TIMI of the plucky class of 1977 has been working with ASECNA (the French acronym for AGENCE POUR LA SÉCURITÉ DE LA NAVIGATION AÉRIENNE  EN AFRIQUE ET MADAGASCAR) for 27 good years as an Aeronautic Telecommunications officer at the DOUALA International Airport. ASECNA is a multinational company that manages the airspace of French speaking countries in Africa and Madagascar. There are 18 Member Countries altogether, Cameroon being one of the pioneer Members.
It is the tradition of the company, each year, to recognize four workers in each member country with an "Aeronautical Medal", for outstanding professional performance in their field of specialization. This year, our very own Sister was one of "the chosen few" in Cameroon.
Traditionally, the event takes place at the end of each year, coupled with the send off of workers due retirement and an end of year feast with all the employees. In Cameroon, it took place at the administrative head office at the Douala International Airport on the 30th of December 2016.
